In supporting our colleagues, we have collected a vast amount of information about arriving and resettling in a new country, either temporarily or permanently. We are now sharing it here in the hope it could be valuable to you or someone you know.

DOCUMENT REQUIREMENTS

If you do not have one, and you do not have a visa, you should contact the consular department of one of the countries bordering Ukraine, such as Poland, Romania, or Hungary. They will consider your case and may grant permission. 

You can cross the border with a child if you have a birth certificate and a document confirming family ties with the person accompanying the child.

It is important that your passport is  stamped at the entrance to Spain. In the case that you cannot obtain the stamp in your passport, an entry declaration would be necessary. This document can be obtained at the Police Station in the three following days after your entry into  Spain. To get this declaration, you will need to provide proof of your entry to Spain - a purchase receipt or any other document related to your travel/entry into Spain. 

Ukrainian citizens can legally remain on the territory of Spain without a visa for 90 days but are not eligible to work for Spanish companies.

TEMPORARY PROTECTED STATUS

The EU has enacted a directive to grant temporary protection for Ukrainian residents affected and forced to move abroad from Ukraine. The Spanish Government has transposed this directive into a procedure to request the temporary protection that allows:

• You to reside and work legally in Spain
• You to access the Spanish public health system
• Your children to go to public schools
   

The temporary protection is applicable to:

• Ukrainian citizens displaced from their country due to the current conflict
• Non-Ukrainian citizens legally residing in Ukraine
• Stateless persons legally residing in Ukraine
   

It is mandatory to apply for the temporary protection while you are in a legal situation in Spain (within the 90 days of touristic visa).

It is possible to apply for the temporary protection as soon you arrive in Spain and its duration will be one year. It may be extended for another year maximum (1 year + 1 year).

EMERGENCY REGISTRATION PROCEDURE

To get medical assistance you must register at a medical center with your passport and address.

The medical centers will proceed with a temporary registration that will last around 3 months. You will not receive a medical card as the status will be temporary. At your temporary registration, you will be assigned a family doctor and/or a pediatrician for children.

REGISTRATION PROCEDURE WHEN YOU ALREADY HAVE THE NIE:

In the case you proceeded with an emergency registration, you must officialise your registration: Go to the medical center with your residence card or the approval of the application and apply for the health card cancelling the Temporary status.

COVID-19 VACCINATION

If you have no shots of the COVID-19 vaccine, you can go to any of the medical centers available at any point in time.

If you already have any shot of the COVID-19 vaccine (no matter if it’s approved or not by the EU) you will need to provide a copy of your vaccine calendar to the medical center to evaluate which vaccine you have had and if/when to have another shot.
