Currently we are looking for a Senior Java Software Engineer for our Zurich office to make the team even stronger.

The role of Senior Java SE will be to carry out developments independently from requirements analysis, conception & realization to releasing, as well as to implement cash and cash/equity derivatives trading applications and provide high support for the legacy applications in collaboration with other specialists. The development team is an integral part of a high energy front-office environment. As a result, the successful candidates will need to be highly committed, and be able to build very close working relationships with both the business and support teams. They will have a strong focus on ownership and commitment to completing them in a timely way.


  • Review software requirement specifications (SRS) to assure their correctness and feasibility, propose adjustments when needed
  • Analyze the code based on ad-hoc requests of business analysts/business users for answering specific questions regarding the behavior of the applications and compare it to the available SRS
  • Support business analysts for finding possible root cause of issues/defects from application’s business logic perspective
  • Participate in Agile planning sessions, estimate scope items using t-shirt sizing and poker play
  • Participate in release planning sessions and dependencies’ planning sessions with other teams in the domain
  • Support QAs in planning of test automation, provide feedbacks for QA plans and propose adjustments when needed
  • Propose refinements for designs, uncover the pinpoint of the current design and document possible options for refinement
  • Participate in other team’s software design sessions to assure proper dependency management
  • Implement software components in strict accordance with business requirements using Java and related tools, technologies and frameworks
  • Address reported defects and implement fixes in strict accordance with business requirements using Java and related tools, technologies and frameworks
  • Make sure implementation follows enterprise-wide and team code standards and is in sync with QA requirements
  • Submit pull requests in private GitHub instance, address incoming review comments
  • Provide code reviews for pull requests sent by teammates
  • Document changes in team’s knowledge base in sync with documenting standards
  • Continuously increase code coverage rate (unit test coverage rate) by writing automated unit and integration tests using Junit, TestNG and Mockito frameworks
  • Create automated end-to-end tests using test automation framework
  • Configure TeamCity jobs supporting Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery pipeline
  • Improve Continuous Integration pipeline by introducing static analysis tools
  • Administer software deployments to test and production environments in strict accordance with the client’s standards
  • Supply supporting deployment scripts
  • Administer software components’ release notes
  • Provide high support investigating incidents reported from production environment
  • Migrate existing code base from SVN to GitHub
  • Administer team’s resources in private GitHub instance
  • Run security scans with HP Fortify before every release; analyze reported vulnerabilities, address and fix reported vulnerabilities in sync with QA and security standards/requirements
  • Analyze penetration testing reports and address identified security issues
  • Analyze the impact of enterprise IT bulletins, estimate and plan required changes
  • Enrich and adjust development standards, bring up new guidelines items to team discussion for achieving common agreements and fix agreements in team's wiki
  • Contribute to team's wiki by documenting new findings and knowledge about software, dependencies, tools and environments


  • Master computer science degree or higher
  • 4+ years of proven experience in banking industry as a Software Engineer
  • 4+ years of proven experience working as a member of distributed teams
  • 4+ years of proven experience in software architecture design
  • 4+ years of proven experience in production applications support (L1/L2/L3)
  • 4+ years of proven experience and deep knowledge in Cash and Cash/Equity Derivatives domain
  • Ability to diagnose, measure, understand and resolve performance issues
  • Familiar with cash and cash/equity derivatives (trading and pricing)
  • Previous Front Office experience
  • Willingness and ability to work utilizing Reverse Engineering
  • Willingness and flexibility working over different time zones
  • Willingness to undertake on-call support during weekends, public holidays and based on Client’s requests
  • Willingness to undertake onsite support during weekends and public holidays based on Client’s requests
  • Be a team player, but also be able to work independently under pressure
  • Fluent verbal and written English mandatory
  • Advanced/expert level of high-performance computing design (data structures, optimizing, profiling, thread synchronization, performance tuning)
  • Experienced with distributed, highly available system design (CQRS and Event Sourcing)
  • Excellent understanding of the data structures and algorithms
  • Knowledge of time and space complexity of various data structures
  • Ability of estimating an algorithm’s computational complexity
  • Network programming - TCP/IP including UDP, multicast, broadcast, NIO
  • Experienced with reliable multicast protocol
  • Advanced/expert level knowledge with web services and APIs, main focus on SOAP and REST
  • Proven knowledge and understanding of Java SE 6/8 and its ecosystem (Java EE 1.4/5 – EJB 2.0, JMS, JAX-WS, JAXB, JSP, Spring core 3.2, Spring Security, slf4j, logback, log4j, JUnit, Mockito)
  • Solid understanding of memory allocation and GC
  • Knowledge of GC algorithms
  • Experience in utilizing GC free approach
  • Deep understanding of and proven experience with Java multithreading
  • Experience in C++/C is highly desirable
  • Deep knowledge of SQL (preferably Oracle)
  • Practical experience in Subversion
  • Expert knowledge of Git and GitHub
  • Solid understanding of Team City
  • Knowledge of Apache Maven 2/3
  • Expert knowledge of Apache Ant and Ivy dependency system
  • Solid Systems programming and scripting knowledge (Linux)
  • Proven experience in Agile (Scrum and Kanban)
  • Experience with Waterfall
  • Proven experience in Continuous Delivery/Integration
  • Advanced/Expert level knowledge with Atlassian products (be able to act as an Admin): JIRA and Confluence
  • Deep knowledge of and proven experience with QA best practices
